Hermes Agent task denied when scheduled

Find the blocked operation and execution policy instead of disabling approvals for every unattended task.

Compare the two execution surfaces

Capture the denied operation, its timestamp and the task's profile. Compare the working interactive attempt with the scheduled attempt: account, working directory, enabled tools, credentials and permission policy. The current security guide documents separate behavior for dangerous commands in unattended contexts. A task that can ask a person in chat may have no equivalent approval path during a scheduled run.

If the command is unnecessary, replace it with a smaller permitted operation that achieves the same authorized result. If the task needs additional account access, repair the specific integration or filesystem permission after establishing ownership. Avoid treating every permission error as an application approval setting; the operating system or remote service may be the source.

Make the recurring contract explicit

Write down which reads and writes the task may perform, which destinations it may touch, and what should happen if the next step exceeds that boundary. For a report generator, saving a draft and recording a blocked delivery can be a useful partial result. For an externally active task, inspect whether anything already changed before retrying.

Test the revised procedure in the same execution mode with a harmless input and a permitted destination. The useful evidence is the actual operation completing under the intended policy. Keep the denial and repair explanation with the run so the next maintainer knows why the boundary exists.

Expected result and limits

Do not switch all cron commands to automatic approval merely to make a status indicator green. Approval settings do not replace clear task authorization. This guide describes a diagnostic pattern supported by current security documentation; it does not grant access, approve an external action or prove the safety of a custom script.
