What Skills is for
Skills are a useful bridge between a one-off conversation and a repeatable workflow. Hermes documents skills as on-demand instructions, with optional references and scripts. Use them for tasks with a recognisable trigger and a checkable result, such as producing a source-backed briefing or maintaining a project record. The instructions should describe what success looks like, the tools needed, and when to stop for missing evidence.
What you need
- A Hermes profile with access to its skill directories and the tools required by the procedure.
- A clear source for the procedure, compatible operating system, and permission to run any included scripts.
Set it up
- 1
Find an existing skill before creating another. Inspect its source, instructions, scripts, and dependencies rather than judging it by its title.
- 2
Try the procedure on bounded sample data. Record verification steps and known failures, then save or adapt the skill through the documented skill workflow.
Check it works
- Ask Hermes which skill it used and inspect the actual output against the promised result.
- Confirm that a new conversation can discover the skill and that the required tools remain available.
Limits and failure points
- Installing instructions does not grant service access or establish that their commands work in your environment.
- Shared skill folders may be writable; preserve local customizations and review changes before sharing the procedure.
